A will is a decree in which it is determined during one's lifetime what is to happen to one's estate after death. If there is no valid testamentary disposition, the legal succession comes into effect. In order to avoid potential inheritance disputes, it is advisable to regulate the passing on of one's own assets in a will.

When drawing up a will, formal requirements must be observed, failure to comply with which will invalidate the testamentary disposition. Furthermore, in the area of inheritance law, there are sometimes mandatory provisions, e.g. compulsory portion or crediting provisions, which must be observed. Especially in the case of complex family relationships, large assets or a business succession, it is therefore advisable to consult a lawyer.
